Welcome to the latest Totalcare blog. Today, we are going to talk about our speciality… Permanent hair removal. While it is a personal journey that has no ‘one size fits all’, we understand this, and we will help you every step of the way. In this blog, we will talk about the consultation and some common misconceptions. Feel free to let us know your thoughts in the comments. Could we do more to demystify modern electrolysis? Would you like to see an Apilus clinic in your area?

Our goal is to help you. We often combine our work with the co corporation of your GP (if necessary) through your path to Permanent hair removal.

The initial consultation is the first step in getting to know you. The atmosphere is designed to be warm and comforting. Trust need to be established and honesty is essential between the patient and electrologist. This is very important to get the quickest and best results for you which is our goal. We have to ask a few questions to understand the cause, effect, and goals for your treatment plan. People often wonder why we home in so much on the endocrine system and your lifestyle. Surely you just zap the hair and it’ll be gone?! In a nutshell, the endocrine system is intricately linked in your body’s communication and activity. Essentially, if one gland begins to be imbalanced and produce inappropriate amounts of hormones, it will inevitably affect the others. This imbalance can affect other glands, leading to negative effects on the nervous system, the immune system, and in some cases manifest in extra hair growth, acne breakouts, skin conditions and weight fluctuations. This can lead to only more stress if you haven’t found someone to listen, understand and support you through this situation.

To explain a little bit of the complexities, we’ll explain the role of the Hypothalamus. The Hypothalamus is an organ and gland in the brain that receives messages from the outside world through your senses like sight, smell, and hearing. It also affects emotions, desire, sex, aggression and motivation. It sends messages to the Pituitary gland to compensate for its stresses and imbalances. It also controls unconscious actions like breathing, heartbeat, blinking, movement digestion and excretion (the removal of metabolic waste from the body). For women, the rhythms within the body also pass through the Hypothalamus generating the cycles of rhythm that starts with puberty; maintains the menstrual cycle; enables ovulation; fertilization; prepares for pregnancy; supports through birthing; and knows when the menopause should begin. Other things that affect this are emotions, stress, and preoccupations; which sends messages to the Pineal gland. The role of the Pineal gland is regulation for sleep patterns, the metabolism through the thyroid gland, infections with the thymus gland, appetite control with the pancreas gland, and last but not least through the adrenal gland how your body copes with the menstrual cycle and life stresses. All of these roles are managed through your hypothalamus it is then processed by the pituitary gland.

Laser is NOT permanent hair removal. However, modern lasers can deliver permanent hair reduction. Electrolysis is often recommended to people who are finishing a course of laser to kill the hairs that laser cannot treat.

Our goal is to help you. We often combine our work with the co corporation of your GP (if necessary) through your path to Permanent hair removal. We will perform a thorough consultation with kindness and understanding. We listen to your worries and offer you a treatment plan. In some cases, results are extremely quick, especially if the hair has not been tampered with (e.g. plucked, shaved, threaded, waxed), but if you are on certain medications this can also have an effect on your regrowth.

What causes hair growth in a person can be many reasons like stress, hormone fluctuations, medications, and it can be hereditary. Whatever the issue we are equipped to get rid of your hair growth whatever the colour of your hair, skin colour, age or gender.

So, let’s deal with some common myths with modern electrolysis:

  1. It hurts

No, this is not true if it’s done correctly. Modern Apilus technology emits concentrated high-frequency energy to the base of your hair shaft. The machine can built up the heat needed to kill the hair in 0.001s of a second, versus a few seconds with other modalities and machines. Also, there are no sensory nerve endings here. The experience is painless but not sensationless. It will only hurt if the therapist has incorrectly set the machine or inserted the probe.

2. It takes years to see results

With modern Apilus machines, people can see results from just a few sessions. This is because the frequency is at 27.12 MhZ compared with 1 or 4 MhZ with some other models that are on the market. While the hair cycle varies per area, we can see some permanent clearance in a few months, and afterwards it’s just maintenance whenever you feel you need it.

3. I need to come in on my day off, as I won’t be able to work the same day

This isn’t true for the vast majority of people. Some people with extreme sensitivity may have slight redness for a few hours after the treatment, but the majority of people have little to no irritation immediately after the treatment, thanks to our cooling and antiseptic post-care treatment. You’ll find out what works for you after the trial removal of 5/10 hairs in your consultation.

4. Laser works just as well, is quicker, and works for everyone

Ok we need to break this one down. Laser is NOT permanent hair removal. However, modern lasers can deliver permanent hair reduction. Electrolysis is often recommended to people who are finishing a course of laser to kill the hairs that laser cannot treat.

Laser treatments are quicker to deliver, but electrolysis is the only hair removal method to get you permanent removal of the hair. So a combination of the two might be an excellent solution for some clients.

Laser only works on pigmented hair. It doesn’t treat grey, red, or very blonde hairs. It also struggles to treat dark/very dark skins effectively. Apilus Electrolysis works on all hair and skin types and colours, as well as on men, women, transgender, and teenage patients.
